I am me. I am God. I am love. I am free. I am everything that I see, taste, feel, hear and touch. I am the sum of all of my experiences as they bounce off of the shore of other people's lives and radiate throughout my existence. I am Soul, and my medium, for now, is Music.
When I was a boy, growing up Roman Catholic, I would sing the hymns during mass with a bit of extra hot sauce. People would politely smile, and say to my parents "your boy has such a nice voice" and my parents would respond proudly with a nod and "Thank you." Even though I stood out like a sore thumb, they never reigned me back in to sheep-dom. Needless to say, I secretly bonded with young Tina Turner singing in her church choir in the movie What's Love Got to Do With It.
There was Roberta Flack, Commissioned, Bobby Womack, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Lou Rawls, Ray Charles, Wes Montgomery and Donny Hathaway all before I was able to read. Then Michael Jackson, and Tony Terry and Whitney Houston. I couldn't listen to enough records, because I wanted to soak it all in. I wanted to know what they sang about first hand, and how they sang it.
It was not enough for me to just fake it, and simply mimic it. I had to sing it as they did. I had to live in hyperbole. So, here I am giving you pieces of me; but not too much all at once. (Devilish Grin)
Thank you for stopping by, and thank you for taking a listen. Keep checking back to see what I am going to do next. And continue to challenge yourself to live in hyperbole too, express that SOUL in you.
